HOW TO FIND THE ONE:
In Pre-Production

"The Game Changed. They Changed the Rules. "

Based on an inspiring true story, HOW TO FIND THE ONE follows a washed-up ballplayer and his brilliant lawyer girlfriend as they become baseball’s first-ever male-female agent team, taking on a ruthless sports industry driven by money, statistics, and corporate control.

Valerie Gibson is a fierce young attorney trapped in a world that refuses to take women seriously. Jimmy Gray is a journeyman pitcher whose career is cut short the moment baseball decides his numbers no longer matter.

Shut out by the system they once believed in, the two risk everything to build an independent sports agency from the trunk of a beat-up car with nothing but instinct, hustle, and a maxed-out credit card. Their mission is simple: find the players everyone else overlooked.

Traveling through forgotten ballparks, dusty backfields, and small-town America, Val and Jimmy enter the unseen world of professional baseball scouting and player representation, discovering a new generation of “misfit” athletes—raw, hungry talent with the kind of heart, grit, and charisma no spreadsheet can measure. But as their unconventional approach begins threatening powerful agencies and billionaire team owners, they find themselves battling an industry determined to turn America’s pastime into a cold business built on numbers and profit.

To survive, Val and Jimmy must outwork mega-agencies, outmaneuver ruthless executives, and fight to prove that the soul of the game still belongs to the dreamers nobody believed in.

In the spirit of Jerry Maguire and Moneyball, HOW TO FIND THE ONE is a gritty, funny, and deeply heartfelt underdog story about the people fighting to keep the soul of baseball alive before the business of the game destroys it completely.

JOHN P. KLIMA is the author of three books, Willie’s Boys, Bushville Wins and The Game Must Go On, and a former baseball journalist, a former minor league broadcaster, and a professionally trained baseball scout turned agent who scouted, signed and represented several major league baseball players.

As a journalist, Klima covered the major leagues for a decade, culminating in publication in The Best American Sports Writing anthology series. He was a national baseball columnist in Los Angeles and wrote for The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times. He attended the Major League Baseball Scouting School and performed his own apprenticeship with a group of legendary baseball scouts who signed such players as Reggie Jackson, Willie Stargell, Gary Carter, Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux, Dusty Baker and scores of others. He parlayed his experiences as a reporter, author and scout into a career as a baseball agent, the basis for HOW TO FIND THE ONE.
